Windows 2000, based on the Windows NT business operating system, is a popular operating system to run on older computers due to its combination of security and low hardware requirements. Users switching to Windows 2000 from an older version of Windows may be unfamiliar with the process of entering a password to log into a computer, however, and may forget their password. This article describes the process of resetting Windows password on Windows 2000 user account.
Solution 1: An available admin account and password
If you have an available account with administrative privilege, you can easily reset Windows 2000 password with the following steps.
Step 1: Log into Windows 2000 using any account that has administrative privileges. Restricted users cannot change other users' passwords.
Step 2 : Click the "Start" button, then click "Settings" followed by "Control Panel."
Step 3 : Double click "Users and Passwords."
Step 4 : Click on the user whose password you would like to change, then click "Set Password." If you are attempting to change the password for the account that you are currently logged into, hit "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Delete" on the keyboard simultaneously then click "Change Password."
Step 5 : Type the new password for the chosen user twice as prompted, then click "OK" to complete the change. If you are changing the password for the account that you are logged into, you will also need to enter the current password for that account.
