Both Windows Vista and XP have a user password control utility that allows you to reset Windows password on user account. This utility is convenient if you forgot one of your user passwords or you want to reset a user password for a friend or coworker who logs in to the desktop. The administrator can reset each of the user's passwords configured on the Windows system.
Tip 1: Type with "control userpasswords2"
1. Click the Windows "Start" button. If you have XP, click "Run." Windows Vista has the command text box directly in the "Start" menu popup. Type "control userpasswords2" and press "Enter" to open the utility.
2. Click the user name you want to edit. Click the "Reset Password" button at the bottom of the user list. This button opens a new window where you type the new password.
3. Type the new password in the "Password" text box. Type it again in the "Confirmation" text box. Click "OK" to save the settings. Repeat this step for each user you want to change.
Tip 2: Reset Windows Password From the Command Prompt
In the Command Prompt you can monitor all the user of the computer by typing some commands.
1: Press Win Key+R and type cmd in the Run command box and hit enter to open command prompt. And then type net user in the command prompt and hit Enter. The Command Prompt will show you all accounts on the Windows 7 PC.
2: Type net user xyz (xyz is the locked admin account's name and 123 is the new password) and press Enter. Now you have successfully created a new password on the locked admin account.
3: Type shutdown -r -t 00 and press Enter.
Tip 3: Take a Windows password recovery tool
1. Ophcrack
Ophcrack LiveCD can be a entirely self contained, bootable edition of Ophcrack. Ophcrack LiveCD stands out as the fastest and best Windows password recovery freeware that I have ever identified to "crack" your forgotten Windows password.
2. Windows Password Unlocker
Windows Password Unlocker can be a powerful and easy-to-use Windows password recovery tool to reset Windows password for all popular Windows OS, like Windows 7/XP/Vista/2000 and Windows Server 2003/2008 etc. Now you need to prepare a bootable CD/DVD/USB and download this program from its official site.
